Middle of July

Here we are in the middle of July and the boat has been on the water since late May or early June. We've had several of you use the boat but surprisingly no one has reported back using the captains logs so we don't know how the boat has been running or how the lake conditions are this year... The Richins are currently using the boat and they called Tim Holden on about Monday to let him know that the generator was not working properly and that one fridge is difficult to get started and required a manual light. We have been advised not to run the generator for extended periods of time in the really hot summer heat. And if you are trying to cool the boat down with the air conditioner I'm sure you have found this to be a waste of time. It's not just our boat but many even the newer houseboats that can't compete with the July temperatures at Lake Powell.
Tim Holden is our President this year and he's doing a great job. It's not an easy task. Everyone seems to think that the President's job is to make sure their trip goes well and that if anything breaks on the boat during their trip that someone will urgently scurry to the lake to fix it so as not to interupt their vacation. I can assure you that if this were the job of the President ( AND IT MOST CERTAINLY IS NOT) then every member on the moki mansion would be required to take their fair share of turns as President. The President's job as we discussed at our last owners meeting at the conclusion on our 2010 year is to keep our boat solvent. If our owners don't step up and help him out, this is going to be an impossible job and the President for 2012 is going to be unemployed. Basically we will all be sitting with a boat and no where to park it. Of course this is just the opinion of one - this blog is open to all so please feel free to post your opinions. I think the more opinions we hear from the better.

There is beauty all around...

Here are just 3 of many scenery pictures from Lake Powell over the years. You just can't beat the peace and tranquility that one feels basking in the sun and enjoying these beautiful surroundings. Please post some of your favorite shots from your trip on the Moki.

Biodegradable Body Soap

Some of you at the houseboat meeting ask about a biodegradable body soap. This is what I found 2 summers ago at Walmart. It's called Alpine Xtreme hydrating face and body wash. I checked online and it states that Walmart still carries this. This bottle is 28 oz and it's 1/2 full after 2 trips to Powell with about 15-20 people on each trip.
Shampoo: it's easy to find shampoo's that are biodegradable. Suave makes some as well as many other companies. Conditioner is another story all together. I finally found Aussi products in the purple bottle. They are biodegradable.
I haven't found any shaving creams that are biodegradable so we just use conditioner.
Just remember that there is a hefty fine if you are found to have any products on the boat that are NON-biodegradable. Help everyone out and share your ideas and products you find that you like to use at Lake Powell.

2011 Moki Mansion Meeting

We had a very nice turn out for our year end meeting (2010). We discussed a lot of important things and I think we accomplished quite a bit in the meeting. Thanks to everyone for their willingness to help make 2011 and the future of the Moki a success and something we can be proud of.
Our officers for 2011 were elected and the decision was unanimous.
President - Tim Holden
President Elect - Wayne Sexton
Secretary - Steve Karren
Treasurer - Myrna Richens

She' on dry land!

For those who might be following this blog - Wayne and Russ Lund drove to Lake Powell today and they have brought the Moki out of the water to dry dock to begin the upkeep process. The pontoons will be power washed and repainted or coated (whatever the proper term is). Once everything is completed we can have the insurance company come and inspect. Having the boat out by early February should ensure it's ready for spring. The engines started great!

Moki Mansion 2010

Wayne and I wanted to start a Moki Mansion blog so that all of the shareholders could have a central place to chat about their Lake Powell trips and to share ideas and suggestions.
I'll go ahead and get things started and hopefully you will all jump on board and help make this a useful site for everyone.

Our Annual Meeting will be held on Saturday February 12th at our home. For those who live out of state, I am working on getting a "poly-com" that would allow you to call and listen to the meeting via speaker phone.
There is much to be accomplished at this year's meeting. We will need to elect a President, Vice, Secretary and Treasurer. C. Deubler has withdrawn his appointment at President for 2011 due to health issues. This leaves us with a lot to do in order to keep the Moki ready for our upcoming season.
